Kindle Books $4 and under

I have $4 Kindle rewards that expire in 2 weeks. Rec me your favorite author - I prefer fantasy or sci-fi that focuses on characters/relationships but am not averse to world building/larger themes. Nothing grim or dystopia. OK if it is part of a series and if it is a few dollars more than $4 (up to $12). Plus if it supports a minority or LGBTQ author (or themes).

Has Melissa Scott written anything new lately? I read her last book that came out in 2012 in that series
