Kindle Books $4 and under

I have $4 Kindle rewards that expire in 2 weeks. Rec me your favorite author - I prefer fantasy or sci-fi that focuses on characters/relationships but am not averse to world building/larger themes. Nothing grim or dystopia. OK if it is part of a series and if it is a few dollars more than $4 (up to $12). Plus if it supports a minority or LGBTQ author (or themes).

Have you read Seanan McGuire's October Daye series ... or her Wayward Children series ... or her Incryptid series? Or read her Newsflesh series, written as Mira Grant? I recommend all of what she writes greatly.

The Steerswoman books by Rosemary Kirstein. There's four of them so far (each one stands alone) and they're each around $4. And there are LGBTQ themes.

(Not my very favorite, but among my favorites of ones you haven't listed as already having.)

Just for fun Pet Noir by Patty Nagel (cats with opposible thumbs in space!)
My favorite supernatural beasties series starts with Strange Practice - Vivian Shaw. Main Character is Dr Greta Helsing; she treats the monsters. (Shaw's wife is Arkady Marine, who is a well-reagarded SF writer).
