SPN: Story and Vid Recs By Season

I have a friend who is working her way through Supernatural. She just finished Season 1. I thought it would be fun to put together a rec list by for her (and other fans) season by season. She will read gen, het or wincest (don't know about J2 but can't hurt to include it). And I'd love help in the form of suggestions. She'll read most any type of fic: funny, dark or death or romantic or schmoopy. She'll read short or long. The only "rule": one rec per category per season per person. Min. info needed: story title, author, category and current link. Because I'd like to offer a wide range of authors, please no self-recs. Each post will cover one year and there will be locations (threads) to make your recs according to category. Note: I play fast and loose with the short and long categories. They are merely...guidelines.
Season 1 (September 2005-August 2006)
Season 2 (September 2006-August 2007)

Season 5 (September 2009-August 2010)
Season 6 (September 2010-August 2011)

Other season by season rec lists:
- Netweight offers an overview of Season 1-4 - both fic and vids. To find the season breakdown, look either within the text or at the end of the line. She also offers meta overview. Excellent resource for new fans.
- Deathisyourart offers vid recs Seasons 1-3. She does not break them down by season, so this would be a good stopping place after you've finished Season 3.
- Zimsham offers vid recs Seasons 1-2. Like Deathisyourart, they are not broken out by season but the post offers a useful stopping place after Season 2.

Someone in season 4 felt it was important to talk about season 2. and we felt it was important to read or watch the story/vid when it was written - in season 4.
If a season 2 story was published in season 4, then readers and viewers who are watching the show today in order will be able to follow what the story/vid is talking about (they've watched seasons 1-4 already). I sometimes have to remind myself that the events in season 3 or 4 may have changed how the writer/reader/viewer saw Sam and Dean or John or Bobby or Mary or Jessica or ... etc in season 1 and 2.
