morgandawn: (Lavender Field Here Now)
This is an journal for and by adults dealing with sexual and political as well as personal issues. If you are under the age of 18, please get the appropriate consent before proceeding.

Fan:
I am a multi-media fan, love sci-fi and fantasy and have been involved in reading and writing fan fiction for the past 12 years. I am in my 40s (to give you a rough age and experience range). My fan fiction can be found here. Fiction with adult ratings or adult subject matter will be labeled and cut-tagged. Please read responsibly. My fan vids can be found in streaming format here

Person:
My other interest is a rare genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) that I have been diagnosed with.   I also ask that you take time to read this before posting or commenting about EDS.  Please note that comments on typos, grammar and formatting will be deleted. LJ formatting problems may or may not be able to be fixed - do not feel offended if I am unable to respond to your request. Hopefully after reading about EDS, you will understand why it is difficult to type and participate online.

WARNING: If you a
re looking for more info about EDS please header over to the volunteer EDS Alert blog here. This is a private journal and EDS is not the main topic of discussion. Please do not give out the link to my private journal (unless you are interested in fannish things, vidding or disussions about slash and sexuality). If you're only interested in EDS, I tag my EDS posts here.

LJ Info:
I really don't have a friending policy. In fact I am somewhat haphazard about it. If you are adding me to your journal reading list and want to be added back, it does help to drop me a note who you are and what are your interests. I have extensive filters and try to keep up with people that way. My blog contains a wide range of topics: personal, political, financial, legal. fannish, and medical. I can be silly and serious. cranky and goofy -often in the same post. I have a very twisted sense of humor - if you think something is funny, more likely than not I am intending it to be funny. And sometimes I am intending it to be so even when you don't think it is funny. My humor requires a great deal of ....humour. And last if you are reading this journal or if you've asked to be added to my friends list to read locked posts - you are agreeing to this. Read it. And then if you want to be added to my friends list, drop me a comment with some info on who you are, what topics you are interested in and that you've read and agreed to the things I need in order for me to feel comfortable inviting you into the more private areas of my 'home.'

Linking: Blanket permission to link to my public posts. Heads up appreciated.

If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find.....

Are we there yet? And where are the flying cars?
PS. Nothing posted on my blog or in any of my comments is legal advice. From time to time this journal will provide background on legal issues; it does not provide legal advice. Legal advice is tailored to the facts of your particular situation. If you need legal advice, consult an attorney.

Vid edited in Feb 1998 on VCRs with VHS video footage. Shown at Escapade Convention. 4 months after we made the vid, the series ended. During the season finale, they played this song, leaving us with an eerie sense we’d tapped into the show’s gestalt mind.

If you are a vidder who has used Blip.TV to stream your vids, your vids will most likely be removed in the next few weeks. I did not receive a notification email, but thanks to [personal profile] laurashapiro I logged in today and found that indeed, they are removing all of my vids.

The streaming options are poor, but I am testing out the AO3's "vid shell" - this is where you host your vid elsewhere  (vimeo, youtube etc) and then use AO3 to create a stable "shell" (or link) to hand out. You can always update where the vid is actually hosted without having to change the link.

Anyhow, here is my Due South vid.

Over the summer pharis offered to remaster "Wonder of Birds" a Due South vid that  laurashapiro and I made a while back (it was my first computer vid BTW).

So here it is - you can download it via laura's journal here

or watch it here (you can download the lyrics at laura's journal)
A huge thank you to pharis for remastering!

It's been 24 hrs since I asked you all to categorize my vid God Says Nothing Back , so now that more votes have trickled in, I thought I’d share my thoughts:

The vid was made with the intent of being a character study of Sam.  I wanted to look into Sam's relationships to the people around him, and I wanted to go far beyond the sexual/physical and focus more on the spiritual/emotional (keeping in mind that at least 2 of the people he is 'talking' to are dead, this should not be a surprise).

Short version: it was not intended to be a slash or even a het vid.

edited to add: at a friend's request, I add (somewhat tongue in cheek) vidder's notes. I normally don't post notes. But here is the short version: POV = Sam Winchester. He is asking the universe: "why me? why do I have to live this life? why did my mother and Jess die?"

The universe (not being into direct communication - kinda like a passive aggressive SO) uses the people in his life to answer back:
Mom - God says nothing back
Dad - Time says nothing back
Dean - Love says nothing back
Jess - Death says nothing back.

If you haven't picked it up yet: the universe (the bastard) isn't answering Sam's question ("I told you so"). Which leaves Sam, in the end, poised between hope (fire/doves & burning Madonna) and the demon. Gasping, out of breath, caught between fear and determination. additional in-depth commentary from a viewer of the vid here: edited 3/3/2015: removed the imeem link, added vimeo

A follow-up to this post and idea here:

Please feel free to drop a link to the first vid you made. Any fandom, any date is welcome. Even if your first vid has been online for while you can participate. Ditto if your first vid was made only days ago - or last year. Or last decade. Or whenever. All first vids in all fandoms are welcome. The idea is to show case our first efforts, remind of us where we started and encourage others who have just started vidding.

My first vid was made in 1995. It is streamed here here on iMeem .

Title: Ordinary World
Fandom: The Professionals
Artist: Duran, Duran

I made this vid using two VCRs and second or third generation copies of the TV show on videotape. Looking back it has all the hallmarks of a 'great' first time vid: cuts off (not on) the beat, long clips (although to be fair we all had limits on how fast we could cut using VCRs - but trust me, these are looong clips), talking heads etc.

The idea came to me while I was living apart from

[livejournal.com profile] xlorp and working on a huge project that took me to Los Angeles for a year and a half. I would drive home to my rented room in the evening and listen to this song and think of him and how much I missed him. The line 'Where is my friend when I need him most?" captured for me the dynamics of my (then) favorite pairing of Bodie and Doyle. The 'ordinary world' the singer keeps singing about is (surprise surprise) all the girlfriends they love and lost. I guess that means they were fated to be together, eh?

I normally don't go in for extensive vidder's notes (so I won't). Suffice it to say, this vid would not have been made without the encouragement of my friends who counseled me through health induced changes in my editing methods that were both painful and frustrating.

And a special thanks to [personal profile] xlorp for patiently walking into the room every 15 minutes when I called out: "oooh, look at this clip. And this clip. And this clip....Oh look! Another clip."

Some random technical comments. I’ve never offered any comments before on a vid. It seems time consuming, somewhat self-reflective, and boring. But never let it be said, I was afraid to be boring. Or self-absorbed.

[livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro posted "Wonder of Birds," a new vid we did together. Due South. Fraser/Kowalski.

Due to the recent vidding kerfuffle, however, you will not find it on Laura's old vid site, which has been taken down.

Email her at: laura @ humandesign.com and she'll be happy to give you the URL and password. Maybe. If you seem like a reputable sort. (:
