In 1996, some might argue that the asteroid already hit the earth (Internet) and that the dinosaurs were slowly dying off. But one intrepid slash convention tried to adapt and get a head start on growing those opposable thumbs. Read the announcement for  (perhaps) the first IRC chat held live at a slash convention.

If a password is necessary (sometimes ya gotta use one to keep out the surfin' dweebs), use the word "slash" .
