Sounds like some of those have been operating for awhile, and the impact was minimal enough that we didn't even realize it. Some of the deviant art folks might know all about it, though!
I hadn't heard of that service, but lots of people in the Homestuck fandom sell their fanart. Artists are given the creator's legal permission to sell 2D art if the print is not reproduced and sold many times. And then certain artists are selected or commissioned or something to sell prints in the official Homestuck store, and those ones are mass-produced obviously.
