This reminds me of something she once said about women in fandom. It inspired me to work on fandom history. That and xlorp reminding me of the history photographs and newspaper articles that only identified women as "Mrs John Smith."
and THIS reminds me of a day a long time ago when I was helping my mother pack up the house she'd shared with my father. I think we were in her bedroom, but it might have been her office. at any rate, we came upon a box of stationery and she tossed it at me and said "Give this to your father's new wife."
It was embossed and each card said, "Mrs Michael J. H...."
I've never forgotten that. When they asked the other day at the courthouse if either of us were changing our names the "No" resounded around the room.
When we got married, they asked me the same question. And I said: "You mean I have to do all this work and fill out all these forms and then contact every damn vendor and agency just to erase my identity. Why would I do that?"
