Right now, it all defaults to their html5 viewer which only supports 360p (unless the vid was encoded in 720p). I am trying extensions FLV for both Firefox  and Chrome and they won't play 480p.  It is as if that resolution has vanished.

edited to add: this may be a Firefox
problem. I can see 480p on Chrome (but of course Google has disabled any video  downloads on Chrome)
but they've disabled audio on any 480p downloads by separating out the streams.

This is one of the reasons I don't update browsers unless forced. I'm using FF 17.0.1 (the latest is 38.0.5) and can still see the quality drop-down box. And I just dl'd a 720p mp4 video from YT of the two Metallica guys playing the national anthem at last night's NBA finals game.

Can I also say how much I hate that YouTube always seems to default to the worst possible quality? I know most users probably don't notice, and it saves bandwidth, but... ecccchhh.
