Connie Faddis Star Trek Fan Fic: The Third Wheel

Connie Faddis has graciously offered to allow us to post her fic online. For now, they will be available in PDF format download. If someone wants to convert her Star Trek fic to html and post them on a fic archive, I'd be happy to put you in contact with her.

Second up: The Third Wheel  published in the print fanzine Interphase.

Two reviews from Fanlore:

• an excellent story, 'The Third Wheel' written from McCoy's point of view, which captures well the deep-down feeling between McCoy and Spock that we all expected was hidden there somewhere (1976)
  
  
• It also follows Connie's pattern of both De Profundis and Mojave Crossing -- starting out good, and then somehow, magically, late in the story, something inside the story fuses and melts and transforms into something incredible and breathtaking and very different. And in the last conversation between Spock and McCoy it's no longer idfic but it's a pitch-perfect moment of connection, really sincere, meaningful, and just plain lovely. Like a plot twist, except it's not the plotline that gets twisted. An emotion growth-twist? A character-relationship-arc twist? I don't know, but the ending of The Third Wheel is the most heartwarming new thing I've read in some time (2014)

would you be able to set up an ao3 account for her and post it there? I have 6-7 of her stories I am grabbing from scanned zines. If not, we can just update the Fanlore links with a link to both the html and the PDF versions so people have choices.

I don't have any invites to give out at the moment. :( I could request an invitation and use that to set up an account; would she want to have the account attach to her email? I've done posting for people at AO3 before, by listing them as a co-author and then removing myself from the work.

(There are currently 15983 people on the waiting list; they send out 1000 invites a day. I suspect they're swamped with Yuletide and other holiday exchange sign-ups.)

Thanks for posting this. I have all the Interphase zines, but it's always good to have Connie's stories in electronic format (though of course I always prefer ePub).

I love Connie's stories and look forward to seeing more of them -- and really appreciate the work people do to make them available.

Oh my goodness. I've always loved the interaction between Spock & McCoy, even back when I was an innocent gen fan.

I remember loving this story all those years ago when I finally snagged copies of Interphase--how wonderful to see it again (my copies of Interphase are in a box with other classic zines ... somewhere), especially with Faddis's beautiful illustrations. Thank you so much for making it available!

I'm delighted Connie's fic is now online. You said this was the second story - is the first one "Mohave Crossing"?
