“But what I am shocked by is that there hasn’t been more of a groundswell of opposition. There are no shortage of respected economists who are pointing out the cliff we may be speeding towards. This bill is so cobbled together - away from scrutiny and open hearings - that no one really can decipher what it will ultimately entail. But what we have been able to tease out is cause for great alarm. I just read an editorial in the Houston Chronicle decrying the tax bill. And there has been fine reporting on this issue from around the nation. The polling suggests the American public takes a very dim view of this approach to taxes And many political observers feel passage of the bill could help spell doom for vulnerable Republicans in 2018.

Nevertheless, this tax effort stands a real chance at becoming law. And by almost all independent measures, it will then wreak havoc.”
