Just  a quick note that I will be posting more political/activist items here. I would love to be able to make public posts that would allow people to opt out while still being able to read my journal, but I understand that  reading about some of these topics can be disturbing. What I've done in the past is to add a specific friends's journal to a "check only weekly" reading filter so I can quickly scan for personal or fannish posts that I might want t read.

#FightTrump: Demand a national hate crimes hotline

Step 1: Sign Petition
Step 2: Call or email your House Rep and ask them to support bill H.R. 6332
Step 3 (optional): Call your governor and ask them to set up a state wide hate crime hotline  (if they don't already have one). Some counties have hotlines so check
Step 4: reblog the petition link and the call to contact your House Rep

Push Congress To Move Forward Bill to Create National Hate Crimes Hotline | We the People: Your Voice in Our Government

"Since the election, there has been a reported explosion in hate crimes, the FBI has called for citizens to report them, but we currently do not have a simple way of doing that. A bill has been introduced in the House Judiciary Committee by Rep. Steve Israel to create a National Hate Crime Hotline (H.R. 6332: National Hate Crimes Hotline Act of 2016), similar to the NY state hotline that was just created. This should be a bipartisan bill, but it isn't likely to pass without serious pressure. Congress goes into recess on December 19th so we need to act fast.

Calling on the committee leadership to step up and pass this important measure - Bob Goodlatte (VA), John Conyers Jr (MI), Trent Franks (AZ), Trey Gowdy (SC), Darrell Issa (CA), Tom Marino (PA), and James Sensenbrenner (WI)."
