There’s nothing stopping fanvids, say, from being nominated for the Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form at the Hugos.

RaceFail was only a year away but it had been building for a long while
Antis were everywhere - unhappy with Wincest and RPS. They had no idea that A/B/O Omegaverse was about to explode onto the scene
OTW was being formed and many many voices opposed it or predicted its doom

So much discussion on LJ: detailed, intense and thoughtful.

Hey...I wrote some vidding meta back in 2008.

I'm VJing a Vid Show of vids to Vienna Teng songs at FanworksCon in August. I pitched it as "Come Out and Level Up: Narratives of Resistance as sung by Vienna Teng" but I'm taking a very broad definition of "resistance."

If anyone is vidding for the show, please let me know, so I can plan appropriately.

I definitely need panel ideas.  What do you folks want to talk about?

The spaghetti code got the better of them. There's a lot of other features they can't implement because of it, like making the archive multi-lingual or uploading vids or basically any new feature......

It seems like the obvious way to do it would be to make a new art.archiveofourown.org subdomain, and then simply have that be a completely separate system with a separate search. People who want fic go to the regular site, people specifically doing fanart go to the subdomain. Even embedding images hosted on the fanart side in fics would still work.

AO3 comes up with some bizarre requirements for how things need to be organized, though, so it wouldn't surprise me if separating art from fic that way is off the table for some weird ideological reason.

[Bad username or unknown identity: Video Vidding 101 - So, you're interested in trying to smash together some moving pictures and musical notes? Let's talk about where you could start. Identity and Vidding - How does our identity (sexual, gender, romantic, or other) affect the choices we make when it comes to vidding? A discussion about how anything between clip choices and relationship focus in our own catalogue of vids is informed by who we are. Long Form Vidding - Videos that go longer than 6-10 minutes - Why and how? Also again WHY? How to develop an idea - how to organize that much source - and how to feel okay about it when you’ve had “edit that song down” drilled into your brain your entire vidding life The Language of Vidding - Have you ever watched a fanvid and thought, "I...think that was cool, but I'm not sure I understood it?" Understanding the narrative of vids can sometimes be a little bit like learning a new language. Let's break down a few vids and talk about the skill of parsing fanvids. Changes in Vidding Technology - People are now vidding on their phones, editing programs are constantly churning out new interfaces, and MPEG Streamclip hasn't updated since 2012. Halp! A panel on how to keep up with technology, what the future looks like, and how these changes affect our vidding processes and our vids themselves. Song Editing - An instructional panel on editing songs for fanvids. What are the different programs that can be used, and how do you cut a song down without making it sound choppy? I've been nominating fanvids for BDP-SF every year, and I'd be very happy if more people joined me! (This year I nominated
The Greatest by bironic and Straightening Up the House by eruthros, either or both of which would've been far more interesting and exciting than two episodes each of The Good Place and Doctor Who. Though I am really pleased about Dirty Computer making it onto the ballot.)
