A somewhat vague thematic grouping of stories.  All are gen.

1. Title: The Paradox of Living
Author:[profile] lyra_wing
Pairing: none, it's gen
Rating: PG-13 (language)
Summary: A bout of unusual child abductions brings the Winchesters up to Alaska in the dead of winter. Takes place post-season-one.

Sam looks over at his brother. "Dean—"
"Not now, Sam," says Dean softly, cutting him off.
"Then when?" Sam demands. 'When will you ever tell me what's going on in your head?'
"Just. Not now," says Dean, still looking up at the Lights. His eyes are distant, a million miles away.
They sit on the inn's front stoop for a long time. The wind carries the laughter and music from the Creek Street bars, ghostly sounds floating on the air.

2. Title: Morgantown
Author:

Written for: [personal profile] gekizetsu
Rating: This chapter, PG-13. Overall, R for violence.
Summary: The boys learn that they have been making quite a name for themselves in the hunting world, and what looks like an ordinary job
turns out to be anything but routine when they encounter old friends, old enemies, and unfinished business from the past.

"Jim find out anything about the house we're going to check out?"
"Yeah, funny thing. It looks like the new owner is the same person who used to own it a long time ago. An old woman with a haunted sink."
Sam blinked. "Well, I guess it's better than a haunted toilet."
"You would know."
"Please," Sam groaned. "Don't remind me."
"Three weeks," Dean said cheerfully. "That's how long you were scared to use the toilet after that."
"It bit me! You would have been scared, too."

3. Title: The Murder Of Crow
Author: [personal profile] lithium_doll
Written for: [personal profile] ignipes
Rating: PG-13ish
Summary: Voodoo, a rescue and car troubles oh my.

"Time'll come", says Isham the Crow, "you boys in over you' heads."

The Crow is a big man; even with the three inches he's gained this summer, Sam still has to cant his head to look up at him, and then further up because the Crow's hat just draws the eye. It's the rainbow edged, oil-slick coloured feathers tucked in the band; they move a little even when there's no breeze - like now.

Dean doesn't look around from hauling the kerosene into the trunk of the car, but a shrug as he drops it next to its twin makes his new leather jacket creak. Somehow it sounds even louder than the dull clang of metal on metal. "We're always in over our heads." Now he turns and his eyes look too white in the thin moonlight. "It's kind've our job description".

4. Title: Never Summer
Author: [personal profile] ignipes
Rating: Overall, R for violence
Notes: ~1700 words.
Summary: A call from one of Sam's college friends brings the boys to a remote Colorado hotel in the midst of a blizzard to investigate a death and a haunting.

"Hey," Sam said as he came up behind Dean. "That was a friend of mine from...Dean?"
Dean didn't respond. He was standing perfectly still, his posture uncharacteristically stiff and upright, staring ahead, unblinking.
"Dean?" Sam put his hand to his pocket, worry surging through him as he realized that he wasn't armed, not even with a pocket knife.
Further along the path, there were a few more people, young couples and more kids, but Dean wasn't looking at them. He was, Sam could see, deliberately not looking at them, his gaze fixed instead on the empty desert to the side.

"Dean?" Sam reached out and touched Dean's arm. "Hey."
Dean jumped and whipped his head around to glare at Sam. "Jesus. Don't sneak up on me like that."
"I said your name."

Jerking his arm away, Dean scowled. "Well, next time say it louder." He glanced over his shoulder at the people down the path, then looked down quickly.
"Okay. Are you--" You? Sam bit his tongue. "Are you okay?"

5. Title: Stigmata
Author: [Bad username or unknown identity:  ]
Rating:  PG-13
Summary: Dean never used to believe in faith healers, so the irony is not lost on him, but he just tells Sam he's not getting a fucking tent or a ticket booth, so Sam'd better damn well not ask.

"The first time it happens, Dean is holding him and begging him not to die.

And he doesn't, but Dean almost does.

The slashes appear as though they were stigmata; they open on their own like splitting seams and start dripping blood, while Sam's wounds stop bleeding altogether and quickly close. They mirror each other perfectly for one moment, then it's one injured brother for another, and Dean wouldn't have stopped if he could."

6. Title: The Only People for Me Are the Mad Ones
Artist: [personal profile] ignipes
Rating: PG-13
Note: ~3500 words.
Summary: The demon is gone. The job is finished. And life goes on. It sure as hell ain't happily ever after, but it's close enough.

"You're a lunatic," Sam says, his chin on Dean's shoulder, his arms around Dean's back. "A goddamned fucking--" laughing, breathing, living "--lunatic."

Dean's laughter fades and he wraps his arms around Sam. "It worked, didn't it?"

"Yeah. Guess it did."

And just like that, it's over.

7.  Title: In Twilight's Garden
Author: [Bad username or unknown identity:  ]Rating: PG-13
Genre: Romance/Angst
Word Count: 1977
Summary: Sam/Jess and Dean. A meditation on loss, grieving, and the healing power of a brother's love... sort of.

Love believes in possibilities and Jess is everything Sammy has ever dared to dream. Even when his dreams turn dark and threatening beneath the rhythm of her soft breathing, he ignores his nightly auguries. Jess is everything, and he and Jess are the only two people in the world. What lies between them when they lie together is stronger than any trick of sleep.

The first moment Dean sees her, he knows who and what she really is. Tucked beneath his heart, bound in leather, and trapped inside a faded photograph, she is a memory-made-flesh. The resemblance is more than a coincidence. Realization knocks the wind out of him before he can speak.

When he finally does, all he can think to say is, "You are so out of my brother's league."

They share a laugh at his expense, but that's not the end of it.

Dean knows he should say something, but time has put too much distance between them and some things even a brother wouldn't believe.
