A more "recent" fanzine published in 1997 (or possibly 2000). Out of the Dark is an XFiles slash fanzine featuring one of the main slash pairings: Mulder/Skinner.

The story is online here at the Annex. Cover art by K9.

Looking for more Mulder/Skinner zine fic?  Try Bene Dictum #4 featuring stories by MFae Glasgow (Fanlore links to the publisher's website where you can download a PDF of the zine)

(some links go to Fanlore, the fan run wiki about media fandom).
(Earlier I blogged about a tumblr user who was showcasing zines that are being sold on eBay.  The image above is from the original ebay seller ad and here is the link to the original tumblr post. The artist was not credited in either posting).

IIRC the zine is from around 2000 but the fic had been around online for at least a couple of years beforehand and the art is probably random. Around that time, AWS was approaching popular long-fic writers in XF about turning their online fic into zines.

I read out of the dark in 1997. (I remember this so precisely because I remember the office I was in when I printed it out for the first time. my brain is weird.)

I used to host a page for all of Kass's XF stuff and she was approached for a ton of it by AWS.

Not that I object to zines in general, because I have a couple thousand of them; I just wish AWS zines were better produced.

Yeah, I agree! I tended to feel like reprinting already-existing fic into fairly pricey zines was kind of a money grab, but if people wanted to pay for it then I didn't really care. I never bought a lot of zines, mainly because I was in my early 20s and broke LOL, but I did like it better when people used the page more efficiently to get more fic into less space.
