A follow-up to this post and idea here:

Please feel free to drop a link to the first vid you made. Any fandom, any date is welcome. Even if your first vid has been online for while you can participate. Ditto if your first vid was made only days ago - or last year. Or last decade. Or whenever. All first vids in all fandoms are welcome. The idea is to show case our first efforts, remind of us where we started and encourage others who have just started vidding.

My first vid was made in 1995. It is streamed here here on iMeem .

Title: Ordinary World
Fandom: The Professionals
Artist: Duran, Duran

I made this vid using two VCRs and second or third generation copies of the TV show on videotape. Looking back it has all the hallmarks of a 'great' first time vid: cuts off (not on) the beat, long clips (although to be fair we all had limits on how fast we could cut using VCRs - but trust me, these are looong clips), talking heads etc.

The idea came to me while I was living apart from

[livejournal.com profile] xlorp and working on a huge project that took me to Los Angeles for a year and a half. I would drive home to my rented room in the evening and listen to this song and think of him and how much I missed him. The line 'Where is my friend when I need him most?" captured for me the dynamics of my (then) favorite pairing of Bodie and Doyle. The 'ordinary world' the singer keeps singing about is (surprise surprise) all the girlfriends they love and lost. I guess that means they were fated to be together, eh?

Edited in 2008: Another 'first vid' thread has been started here http://bop-radar.livejournal.com/168665.html

You know we all hate you for being such a vidding genius right out of the gate, right? Also, same goes for [livejournal.com profile] flummery. Bastards, making us all look bad!

I would never would have thought that *that* song work work for Hercules. But it did and it made me grin.

Hee, thanks! I admit when I started out, I had two vids in mind, and both were to Sinatra songs. (The other one suffered from Premiere trouble and is still in limbo.) Something about them just seemed to fit the brazen stylings of my fandom. *g*

Well! I have it on good authority, Ms. Pot, that a certain vid that makes me sniffly called 'Dante's Prayer' was your first, so I'm not sure just who should be doing the hating here. *glares ineffectively*

But of course, I am in total agreement about [livejournal.com profile] flummery. Hee.

Heh - no, that's a myth. *g* It was actually my third. The first one I ever finished and showed in public was Vasoline. The first one I ever made was Mack the Knife, but I wisely sent it to Ellen before I showed it to anyone, so it didn't see the light of day for a couple of years.

Hee. Should've asked ell! I am still right about you being a vidwonder from day one part, so there. :-P

I'm not sure I've seen Vasoline, should remedy that. And you know how much I adore Mack The Knife. I can practically reconstruct the vid in my head just by singing the song.

I'm glad you like Mack. :-) Me too, but it's changed from its original incarnation. Mostly, it was just too slow. I punched it up a little before releasing the version I had online.

Vasoline was a cool (real) first vid to work on, because it's a movie vid (Hard Core Logo). That helped keep me from losing my mind entirely. I'm not sure if it holds up any more - been a long time since I saw it.
